AAA/Alternative/Modern Rock
TAXI # S051118AA

An Int’l Internet Co. that is starting a new Online Media Channel is seeking great, edgy AAA BANDS/ARTISTS a la Pete Yorn, Badly Drawn Boy, Ben Harper, Beth Orton, Barenaked Ladies, etc. -- for a section of the site devoted to new bands. The channel is launching this Fall and will broadcast sports, concerts, music videos, etc. In fact, they’ll broadcast a live Rolling Stones concert later this year. Having your own video is a bonus, not a necessity to be considered -- they’ll supply cool footage to your tune. Songs must be Broadcast Quality (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include photo/bio. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Nov. 18, 2005. TAXI # S051118AA

"so I can fail to say what I feel " is awkwardly phrased. There's another way to put this so that it's not a negative action.

Good contrast between verse and chorus sections. I liked the retro 80s synth.

Clever lyric. Well constructed. I love the line - "even if I had a Marshall stack I couldn't amplify your name "

Overall Comments:
I enjoyed listening to your submission. You do a nice job at blending indie rock vocals, evocative lyrics with an adventurous production approach. Each song has good dynamic contrast between verse and chorus sections. That said, I do feel that there is room for improvement in the songwriting department. Hooks, melodies need to be more compelling. I didn't feel that any of the songs had a refrain that truly moved me. None of the songs had a lyric hook that was obvious from listening. Try varying your approach a bit. Try writing a song in which the title hook is the first line of the chorus - for example.

Good quality recording.

The Music Supervisor/Producer for an indie film that stars 2 popular teen actors STILL NEEDS ROCK/MODERN ROCK SONGS along the lines of “DOA” by the FOO FIGHTERS and “PHOTOGRAPH” by NICKLEBACK. We recently ran a listing for him but he still hasn’t found suitable material. They’re offering about $1000 per license fee. He wants edgy and somewhat haunting material for this project. Great vocal/instrumental performances a must. Female vocals are OK too. The film is about a 17-year old who clashes with his conservative father, gets thrown out of prep school, and gets involved in a risky love relationship that leads to murder. IF YOU WERE FORWARDED FOR LISTING #D051028RK, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT THE SAME MATERIAL. Broadcast quality needed [excellent sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a res

Some original lyrics here- "I lost half of my lovers by telling the truth, lost the other half telling them lies" Unique background vocals in chorus. Catchy melodies throughout.

Title: The Day After

8 Marketability

Nice keyboard part in chorus help to make it stand out from the verse. Some more interesting lyrics in this one- "Please grant pardons, find parlance, stare into the sun."

The style of these songs is appropriate for this request.

Overall Comments:
Michael, you have a good pop sensibility and a knack for constructing catchy melodies that fit your lyrics well. You write some unique lyrics that, in my opinion, have a comedic element to them that is entertaining. The arrangements of these tunes are straightforward and there is certainly no fat to trim here. I did find myself wanting to hear Pre-Existing Condition go on a bit longer. The ending felt slightly abrupt to me. You could try adding an instrumental section or a bridge and then an additional chorus.

Bio Comments:
Good concise bio.

A wide range of socially conscious & politically aware ROCK SONGS a la Bob Dylan, John Fogerty/CCR, the Jefferson Airplane, and the MC5 to Bruce Springsteen, Bruce Cochburn, and Dave Matthews to REM, Pearl Jam, and Rage Against The Machine are needed by a Los Angeles-based Music Library. They want intelligent songs that address current political and social issues, from the viewpoint that you’re mad as hell at what you see and hear our government doing in our name. The idea is to incorporate new songs into their library that will be pitched to film & TV projects [especially film] that are progressive in their subject matter and advocate change. They want the next generation of revolution-inspiring and enlightening songs. Male and/or female vocals are fine, but no instrumentals, please. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyric sheets. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and m
ust be received no later than Nov. 7, 2005. TAXI # S051107RK

DEFINITE political influenced lyrics. Thanks.

Overall Comments:
May I suggest that in song: 1) you are more careful in regards top the rhythmic melody of your lyrics. There were areas where it sounded like too many words were squeezed together. Thanks. 2) 3) you be more clear in regards to what it is you're trying to say. Seriously, I have no idea. Sum up the meaning of your songs in one word or short phrase and repeat it in your chorus to increase memorability. Thanks.

Not great, but clean enough for this listing

The main reason you were or were not forwarded for this listing is:
Lyric issues more than anything as discussed above. Remember, it's not what the songs mean to you, but rather how they impact the listener. Once you're famous, you can be as illusive as you want and people will be interested in decoding you. Till then, you'll need to strive for immediate impact.
